Our Mission

Our mission is to eliminate the barriers to accessing the essentials that enable every person to fully participate in daily life.

Our Service Model

We distribute products through two channels: a network of community partners and direct service. We provide assistance to individuals and families in need throughout northern Illinois.

Our community partners submit orders to us on behalf of those they serve and we fill them. Orders are picked up at our office by the agency and they handle the distribution to the families.

Direct service is available to individuals and families through our mobile pantry. To qualify, individuals/families cannot be receiving the same products from other agencies and must complete our online registration form. Identification and documentation is required for individuals, parents/guardians, and children.

Our Story

Founded in 2010, Keeping Families Covered was built with the goal of connecting families to basic human needs.

What began as a collection of items in our founder’s basement has evolved into a brick-and-mortar organization with a mission of eliminating barriers to access essentials for the most vulnerable residents in northern Illinois.

We know that parenting and caregiving is challenging, but it is even more difficult when you lack the necessities. We believe that everyone should be able to access, and afford, the basics they need to thrive and reach their full potential.

We continue to foster relationships with a vast network of community partners and provide help to thousands of families each month. With just 20 team members who commit over 2,000 hours of service each year, our organization is small but mighty.

Our Team

CEO & Founder

Ann Marie Mathis

As a mother of 7, Ann Marie understands the challenge of caring for young children and yourself. That challenge is compounded when individuals and families struggle to access, and afford, necessities like diapers and period supplies. Armed with a M.S. and B.S. in organizational leadership, and over 20 years of corporate experience, she started Keeping Families Covered in an effort to make a difference and provide support to people in crisis, ensuring that essentials like diapers and period products were available to those who needed them most.
